3 Ways to Use Fabric Yo-Yos in Your Holiday Decorating

Christmas decorating doesn't have to be complicated (even if you're adding a handmade touch!) A simple fabric yo-yo is versatile and can be used in a variety of ways to decorate your home. Use them individually as ornaments or to embellish a Christmas present, or sew them together for a seasonal wreath or a pretty garland. Get started today and your home will be merry and bright in no time!

To make the wreath shown in the above picture, follow these instructions:

Materials:

  • 1 foam wreath form
  • Enough fabric to wrap wreath form in
  • Fabric yo-yos
  • Ribbon

Assemble Wreath:

1. Cover the foam wreath form with 3"-wide strips of fabric. Use hot glue to close the fabric strips at the back of the wreath form.

2. Assemble as many fabric yo-yos as needed to cover the entire wreath. See our step-by-step instructions for making a fabric yo-yo here.

3. Hot-glue the fabric yo-yos to the wreath.

4. Tie a ribbon around the top of the wreath for hanging.

For an alternative and less time-consuming wreath, wrap a foam wreath form with yarn. Pin or hot glue three fabric yo-yos to the wreath, as shown below.

To make the garland shown in the above picture, follow these instructions:

Materials:

  • Fabric yo-yos (as many as you want for your desired length of garland)

Assemble Garland:

1. Assemble as many fabric yo-yos as you'd like. See our step-by-step instructions for making a fabric yo-yo here.

2. To join yo-yos, place them with gathered fronts together. Using matching thread, whipstitch them together for about 1/2". (The example below uses black thread so you can see the stitches.) Continue until all yo-yos have been sewn together.
